C3 Richmond: Web + New Media Monday Short Report

• Do you use Facebook? PAY ATTENTION:
  It all started when I noticed a client, who was not a "friend" of mine on Facebook, had joined a Fan Page I had just joined, caught my eye. "Awww...!" and I clicked on her profile to friend-request her.  To my surprise, there were photos of her one year old daughter, with her daughter's name, their neighborhood information... concerned, I emailed her and she changed her privacy settings accordingly.  Later that week, a friend's husband, who is not my Facebook friend, appeared on another event with me, and I did the same thing: clicked on his profile to friend request him, then, still not a friend, saw pictures of his daughter, her name, their easy-to-be-found unusual last names...!
  
  Curious, I logged out of Facebook and spot-checked a few people I knew... and was BLOWN AWAY.  Overwhelmingly their profiles revealed confidential information I am certain they would not want out in the ether.  I encourage you all to log out and see what your and your family profiles, reveal. (I never have pictures of my children's faces or names on the internet. Guess what: I may be diligent but Grandma wasn't and needed to be corrected.)

Keeping an eye on FireFox

We love FireFox around here. It's a great, open source browser that is standards compliant and all around good for web developers and surfers alike. But that doesn't mean it's perfect, and we still have to keep an eye on what's going on with our (non-official) favorite browser.

Chad Perrin over at Tech Republic wrote a good article on how .NET Framework 3.5 Service Pack 1 can compromise the security of your FireFox Browser.
